Sailors' Society in Asia Pacific

Sailors’ Society’s Crisis Response Network Asia provides support for seafarers who have been affected by natural disasters – like Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines – or other traumas at sea.

Piracy is a major cause of fear for many seafarers. In Indonesia, our chaplains have been helping seafarers who were held hostage by pirates for almost five year. We’ve arranged counselling, provided financial support and given the guidance to help them get back on their feet after their ordeal.

Piracy survivor Adi Manurung, who was helped by Sailors’ Society after his release, shares the story of his ordeal.
